Hosted annually by The Poetry Society, is The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, an opportunity for any young poet aged 11-17 to have their poems published in the annual Foyle Anthology. 2018 marked the 20th Anniversary of the competition and to celebrate a gala event was held at the newly renovated Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth hall part of The Southbank Centre. Ten writers, whom all started their poetry journey by winning the award, were asked to perform some of their pieces.
Every year The National poetry Library at The Southbank Centre holds an open day, where they display new and rare pieces from their collection for the general public to explore. The theme this year was ‘Odyessey’s’ with a reading from three poets that evening in response to the theme.
